Building not just a show, but a community
“This podcast is far better quality than it needs to be.” That’s one of the Reddit comments I received a few months into creating this podcast. It felt like a backhand compliment in the funniest of ways, but I take great pride in having heard those words. I knew when I set out to create this show that I wanted it to be as professional grade as anything I would actually listen to while working out or at work. I had actually looked for a podcast about Age of Empires IV and been surprised that nothing already existed. I decided to be the change I wanted to see and began reaching out to AoEIV community members that I knew were as passionate about the game as I was to see if there was interest in a show like this.
The answer I got was a resounding “YES!” so I set to work in brainstorming a name and began working on album concept art.
Within about 2 months (4-5 episodes) we were already averaging about 600 downloads per episode and that number has grown steadily ever since. As the show grew, I began to reach out to pro players of the game and began to have them on as guest-stars as well.
Lately, the show has started doing more live video episodes as well and is currently hosted on Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and pretty much anywhere anyone can get their podcasts.
